Instagram has just introduced a suite of new tools to help you make your Instagram story even more fun and engaging. With the influx of new Instagram features on a regular basis, it can be hard to keep up!
That's why I'm going to break down what these new Instagram Stories features mean for you.
You may already be familiar with the Boomerang app. Boomerang takes multiple images and slaps them together in one 'moving picture'. The app lets you turn everyday moments into something fun and quirky!
Where users would have had to navigate to the Boomerang app, take a Boomerang, save it to images and then upload it into Instagram Stories. Now you can easily take a Boomerang right inside Instagram Stories!
Swipe right from your feed to open the stories camera. You'll find a new format option under the record button that lets you select 'Boomerang' mode. Tap record and the camera will stitch together a burst of photos into a mini video! Then share it to your story as you would a normal image or video.
Within the new suite of tools, you can now highlight and direct attention to another user by 'mentioning' them in your story.
This feature works just the way it does in captions and comments. When you add text to your story, type '@' followed by the username of the account you're thinking of, and select them. Their username will appear as underlined within your story, and when someone taps the mention, they’ll see a pop-up that takes them to that profile!
If you've been mentioned in someone's story, you'll receive a notification in your Direct messages. Tap the preview to view the story while it's live. If someone you don’t follow mentions you, the notification will pop up in your message requests.
This new 'mention' feature has powerful implications, which include:
- Instagram Stories is now a much more attractive promotion option for brands wanting to work with influencers on sponsored content, with influencers now able to direct their followers straight to a brand's account.
- Brands and bloggers working together on a giveaway can easily direct followers to the account promoting the giveaway, to spur on more entries.
- Cross promotion of accounts becomes much more powerful, with followers being able to click straight through to the promoted account.
'See More' Links
Up until now, Instagram has only allowed users to include one link in their account - the link in the bio. But that's all about to change. Instagram is starting to test the use of links inside some stories.
This feature will work by allowing users to include a 'See More' link at the bottom of their stories. Users would be able to swipe up to view the link right inside the app.
Currently, this feature is only available for verified accounts.
If, in time, everyone gets access to the 'See More' Links feature, it will completely transform the way we generate leads!
Instagram Stories is a powerful tool for building greater connection, and fostering authenticity with your audience.
For example, imagine if you could have a one-on-one conversation with someone about your service, and then have a link on that same video that would lead your viewer to find out more about the service.
Or what If you were a brand or product-based account, and by including 'See More' links, users could easily navigate to your website to find out more about a specific product.
These direct links in Stories should dramatically increase the generation of leads through Instagram, and have a powerful flow-on effect on consumer purchases.
